NEW DELHI: Just weeks before India conducted the key flight-test on Monday of its 5,000-km-range Agni-5 inter-continental ballistic missile, which is believed to be capable of targeting nearly all of China, Beiing sent its second research vessel to the Indian shores, besides the first one that was already anchored off Maldives, to likely ‘keep an eye’ on the crucial test from the Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the Odisha coast.

Till now, China and four other countries — US, Russia, France and UK — have the capability to launch a missile with multiple independently targetable reentry vehicle (MIRV) technology. These countries have this capability in either land-based or sub-based categories.

Chinese ship ‘X iang Yang Hong 01’ departed from the Chinese port of Qingdao on Feb 23. Open-source intelligence expert Damien Symon showed the 4,425-tonne ship's entry into the Bay of Bengal on Sunday on social media platform X. ian Yang Hong 01 is now less than 260 nautical miles — about 480 km — off the coast of Visakhapatnam, which is believed to have the base of India’s nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines

India navy need to dash against these Chinese vessels or chase them away like China do with Phillipines ships, thats only way to keep them away in such crucial cases. Also India needs to blockade Maldives so adversary navy doesn't dock there

China has around 65 Research Vessel Ships compared to India's 2 or 3 ships which includes monitoring ships as well. Infact India has a sole single dedicated Survey Ship which was inducted just last month in February 2024 the indigenous built INS Sandhyak.
