广州太现代化了！加拿大人第一次来中国

Guangzhou is the 3rd largest city in China and is a very important economic and trading hub for the country. It is especially famous for its annual Canton Fair, historical temples, incredible shop and of course Cantonese cuisine. This was my first stop on my trip to China and I'm very glad it was! This city has a lot to offer and I will definitely be back :)

广州是中国第三大城市，也是一个非常重要的经济和贸易中心。广州还以一年一度的广交会、历史悠久的寺庙、难以置信的购物天堂以及粤菜美食而闻名天下。广州是我中国之行的第一站，我对这个安排非常满意！这个城市有太多美好的事物了，我一定会再找机会来广州的。

Compared to Shanghai and Beiing, Guangzhou is the "slowest" mega city. And compared to Shenzhen, Shanghai and Beiing are  slower. You have no idea how fast is Shenzhen  can be until you spend some time in it.

A really interesting video on a very modern city. I'd read books about this city when it was known to the outside world as Canton. Every Canadian knows of Cantonese style Chinese Food since many of the Chinese who worked on building the CPR opened restaurants in towns and cities along the rail lines.

Those protective barriers are in all of China subways since forever. I don't understand why many subways in the West don't have this. It's not like it is very expensive to install.

@silveriver9  Capitalism, as you know. Some cost is necessary for people's safety, while it never generate profits. Same logic for high speed railway, you know from BBC CNN that it caused huge debt, but these medias never say it bring huge convenience to common people.

the glass walls in the subway is named as “platform screen door”. This is a good design for subway which on one hand provide safety to passenger and also save a lot of energy as the air-conditioning (cooled air) at the platform will not be easily lost to the trackway. This is the standard design in all subway in China and Hong Kong nowadays.

@silveriver9 because those worth of protecting will ever take subway.  Beiing subway 1&2 don't have it before, they also said it is hard to add for many years.  But when I visited last year I saw it's also installed

I am living in Canada. I suggested my friend to visit China someday but she rejected. She said China is not safe for Canadians, and she doesn't want to be put in jail in China.  I told her that Shanghai is more developed than Toronto and deserves a visit,  and she said: "Oh, really?"

It’s funny that here in the US or anywhere in the, so called West, Cameras are called “security cámara” (and are everywhere, the difference is that we don’t pay attention to them)…but the same Cameras, with the same purpose are called “surveillance camera” if they are in China. Anyways, looks a very modern, clean and organize society.

Actually those CCTV cameras and digital pay make every ordinary people safe.  Meanwhile just in downtown Toronto, a lady driving a Rolls-Royce SUV was being carjacked, what a contrast!

China has the most advanced and futuristic cityscape in the world. It is also very safe. Most ppl in the West are oblivious to this or are in denial.

Guangzhou is modern but more traditional compared to Shenzhen and Shanghai. Guangzhou and Guangdong province as a whole are much more jam-packed during the rush hours since that area is basically where "Made in China" is being produced with hundreds of thousands of migrant workers from all over the country.

广州非常现代化，但跟深圳和上海比还是稍显传统。广州和整个广东省在高峰时段会很拥堵，因为这里基本上是“中国制造”的基地，全国各地数十万农民工都聚集在这里。

From friends and colleagues, the most common thing I hear from them is how safe China is, the lady teachers who travelled out there solo have said they've never felt so safe walking around in the middle of the night, God knows what they are doing walking around that time though.

You even got the pronunciation down!  It's a lot easier to travel there than it used to be 20 years ago when I first went and my goodness is it different now, it used to be nearly all bicycles back then. You can get a 10 year visa to make travel to China much easier for a Canadian.

You came at a good time to Guangzhou in  March, because when I went there a crowds during  Chinese New Year (Early Feb) there was massive people in subways and out in the  streets. The riverboat cruise during the evening on the Pearl River was pretty nice, especially the Alibaba building lights.

There are 4 first-tier cities in Mainland China, Guangzhou and Shenzhen which are located in south part of China's Guangdong province, and anther two are Shanghai (as you may know one of the international Economic hubs ) and Beiing which is our capital city.
