India objects to state department's comments on Kejriwal's arrest, summons US diplomat

NEW DELHI: India on Thursday summoned US' Acting Deputy Chief of Mission Gloria Berbena over remarks on Enforcement Directorate arrest of Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal. The meeting lasted for approxmately 40 minutes.

周四，因美国国务院对印度执法局逮捕德里首席部长凯杰里瓦尔发表的言论，印度召见了美国使团代理副手格洛丽亚·伯贝纳，谈话持续了大约40分钟。

"We take strong objection to the remarks of the Spokesperson of the US State Department about certain legal proceedings in India.In diplomacy, states are expected to be respectful of the sovereignty and internal affairs of others," the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement.

“我们强烈反对美国国务院发言人关于印度某些法律程序的言论。在外交上，各国应尊重他国主权和内政，”印度外交部在一份声明中表示。

"This responsibility is even more so in case of fellow de ocracies. It could otherwise end up setting unhealthy precedents. India’s legal processes are based on an independent judiciary which is committed to objective and timely outcomes. Casting aspersions on that is unwarranted," the MEA added.

“对于皿煮国家来说，这种责任更是如此。否则，最终可能会树立不健康的先例。印度的法律程序以独立的司法机构为基础，致力于取得客观和及时的结果。对此进行中伤是毫无根据的，”印度外交部补充道。

  This comes a day after the United States responded to the arrest of Kejriwal, advocating for a fair legal process in the case. In a statement, a spokesperson from the US state department had highlighted the importance of ensuring fairness, transparency, and timeliness in Kejriwal's legal proceedings.

美国对凯杰里瓦尔被捕发表评论，呼吁在此案中采取公平的法律程序。在一份声明中，美国国务院发言人强调了确保凯杰里瓦尔法律程序公平、透明和及时性的重要性。

This marked the second international commentary on Kejriwal's arrest, following Germany's response last week.

Germany had emphasized the right to a fair and impartial trial for Kejriwal, with George Enzweiler, the deputy head of mission of the German embassy, being summoned by India's ministry of external affairs to officially express their concerns.

Kejriwal's arrest stems from allegations of corruption related to the excise policy case. A Delhi court has extended his custody until March 28, following his arrest for corruption in the liquor policy.

The dumb officials in the foreign lands make a routine reply. And for no reason at all, people in India start jum up and down! Learn to ignore unless a foreign government official makes a remark. Then by all means go all guns blazing!
