As a block ASEAN nations know what China want and what themselves want with this relation. China is the most influential nation in this region and the next most influential nation is Japan. India is now even close, India can't do business with any of these nations. 9 out of 10 ASEAN nations have a non confrontational policy with China. India like to see itself as the leader of the region and also in the Global South but most of the global south countries do not think India can do as much for them as China can and already doing. If you look at India's domestic and foreign policy it is much of chasing the tail of China. In term of how to achieve these economic objectives India is at where China is almost in 1990s
