NEW DELHI: External affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Tuesday expressed confidence that India will secure permanent membership in the United Nations Security Council. He acknowledged a growing global sentiment favoring India's inclusion but emphasised the need for intensified efforts to achieve this goal.

新德里：周二，外交部长苏杰生表示，印度这次有信心成为联合国安理会常任理事国。他承认，全球支持印度入常的情绪日益高涨，但他强调，需要加大努力实现这一目标。

Jaishankar highlighted the circumstances of the UN's formation about 80 years ago when five nations—China, France, the Russian Federation, the United Kingdom, and the United States—established themselves as permanent members of the Security Council.

苏杰生提及大约80年前联合国成立的情况，当时有五个国家——中国、法国、俄罗斯联邦、英国和美国——成为安理会常任理事国。

He noted that while there were approxmately 50 independent countries at that time, the world's geopolitical landscape has evolved significantly, with the number of nations now standing at around 193.

他指出，虽然当时大约有50个独立国家加入，但世界地缘政治格局已经发生了重大变化，目前国家数量约为193个。

"But these five nations have kept their control, and it is strange that you have to ask them to give us their consent for a change. A few agree, a few others put forward their position with honesty, while others do something from behind," he said.

This has been going on for several years, the Jaishankar added.

"But now, there is a feeling across the world that this should change, and India should get a permanent seat. I see this feeling increasing every year," he said.

"We will definitely get it. But nothing big is ever achieved without hard work," Jaishankar said.

Getting a permanent seat in a weak institution is not as good as getting respect from your neighbours. India should pay more attention in dodging out Chinese firms from the sub continent and from the world at large.
