NEW DELHI: Making India’s intention clear to join global efforts to remove debris from space, Isro chairman S Somanath on Tuesday announced that the country aims to achieve debris-free space missions by 2030.

印度空间研究组织（ISRO）主席索马纳特周二宣布，印度力争到2030年实现无碎片太空任务，这表明印度有意与全球一道努力清除太空碎片。

Addressing the 42nd Inter-Agency Space Debris Coordination Committee (IADC) annual meet in Bengaluru, Somanath said Isro has a clearly laid-out plan for space exploration.

在班加罗尔举行的第42届机构间空间碎片协调委员会(IADC)年会上，索马纳特称，ISRO有一个明确的空间探索计划。

“It is one of the intent or initiative of India to ensure that debris-free space missions are conducted so as to ensure the sustainability of space. I would like to make this initiative a declaration today. This initiative aims to achieve debris-free space missions by all Indian space actors, governmental and non-governmental, by 2030. India also encourages all state space actors to follow this initiative for long-term sustainability of outer space,” the Isro chairman said.

ISRO主席表示：“印度的意图或倡议之一是确保进行无碎片的空间任务，以确保空间的可持续性。今天，我想宣布这一倡议。该倡议旨在到2030年实现印度所有空间行为体(政府和非政府)的无碎片空间任务。印度还鼓励所有国家空间参与者遵循这一倡议，以实现外层空间的长期可持续性。”

On the number of Indian satellites in space, Somanath said, “Currently, we have 54 spacecraft in orbit, plus there are non-functional objects. We have been taking very careful action wherever it is possible to dispose of or remove the space objects from its active role once it is over to deorbit and bringing them to a safe location has been one of the important topics that we have been taking action all throughout.”

Of late, Isro had brought several old satellites and fourth stage of PSLV rockets back to the Earth through the deorbiting process as part of its zero orbital debris mission and to minimise any accidental break-up risks.

Its a great initiative, like Swatch Space.. but other countries are already preparing for space wars in future. If ever that happens, then IADC will have big work to clean up the space. World should join together for disarmament of weapons instead of making more and opening new fronts for deterrence against each other!
