What is interesting is the idea that "we have not seen debt levels like this since WW2".  That era was starkly different.  At the end of the war, the US was the only industrialized nation around.  They were able to quickly put all that excess cash into rapidly expanding the economy and giving people a better standard of living.

That option no longer exsts.  Structurally, the US can only give money to the people who need it the least: banks, large corporations, and the defense industry.  If we want the US to re-industrialize and become "competitive with China" somehow, this will not be possible without a complete revolution in our government, financial, and education systems.

They'll have the added bonus of raising the standard of living for their citizens.

It is honestly bizar how even economical experts just do not understand how China does its economy.

This despite it not being that difficult. China has a long term goal that it divides in 5 year plans and it will create laws, subsidies, tax breaks focused on the mandates put forward in those plans. All the decoupling is going to do is ensure China exports its goods and services elsewhere in the world.
