Sales of Apple's iPhone in China fell 19% during the quarter ending in March, an independent research firm reported. The US company fell to third in the nation's hotly-contested smartphone market, behind Vivo and Honor, according to Counterpoint Research estimates. Bloomberg's Edwin Chan reports.

In the first 6 weeks in 2024, Apple sales in China dropped by 24%, while Huawei sales since the launch of the Mate 60 series has increased by 64%. China market accounts for 20% of Apple sales. Apple has dropped to 4th position while Huawei has jumped to the 2nd position in the China market.

With the launch of the Pura 70 and an expected sales of 10 -12 million, Huawei will top the China market again. Apple sales is expected to drop further.

on the ground fact: my iphone14 max has WORSE signal performance than my iphone 10max, and much worse than my Huawei phone. iphone14 randomly drops 5g signal, drops phone call, unable to pick up call where my iphone10 had no problem. it is objectively to me a worse phone than iphone10 for business use. i definitely will not upgrade to iphone15 or whatever.

Within the FMCG, if you don’t evolve you lose. Apple 12, 13, 14, 15…….. what are the real tangible proposition for the end user that justify its ever increasing product pricing. I don’t think the Chinese Consumer especially the younger segments cares two hoots about geopolitics since foreign social and main stream media are inaccessible there. Once you lose market share in Asia, don’t think you will regain it back unless something change drastically and quickly.

Esp the camera since Chinese r social media intensive , many Chinese phones have better cameras at lower prices. Also the status of owning an IPhone is not like before , most ppl don’t care now. It’s not a must have item to be cool or to be in. Also there is really no huge breakthrough or new innovation with the new models. And 2nd hand IPhones are very cheap so it’s not retaining value like before.
