Dust storm, rains hit Mumbai, several injured as billboard collapses;  flights, trains delayed

NEW DELHI: Rains and gusty winds lashed parts of Mumbai and neighbouring metropolitan areas on Monday disrupting normal life and leaving several people injured in various incidents. Rains coupled with gusty winds were witnessed in the suburbs of Dadar, Kurla, Mahim, Ghatkopar, Mulund and Vikhroli, while parts of south Mumbai saw drizzles. The satellite towns of Thane, Ambernath, Badlapur, Kalyan and Ulhasnagar also received moderate showers with gusty winds.

At least 35 people were injured after an iron hoarding collapsed in Ghatkopar area of Mumbai, civic officials said.

孟买市政官员说，孟买加特克帕地区的一个铁广告牌倒塌，导致至少35人受伤。

"Nearly 100 people are feared trapped," news agency PTI reported quoting officials said. The incident occurred at the Police Ground petrol pump along the Eastern Express Highway in Pantnagar.

In another incident, a lift of a car parking collapsed leaving several people injured. The car parking lift collapsed at Barkat Ali Naka in Wadala. Fire brigade and police helped with rescue operations on the spot. Some people suffered blunt trauma.

Last yr in Aug , 20 people were crushed to death in Thane when a crane collapsed during Samruddhi expressway construction. That news completely disappeared from the news cycle within 1 day. An investigation was announced by the Govt but no news on the outcome. Just like the Morbi bridge collapse & ODISHA train accident, we forget tragedies very quickly .

But in BMC you pay and they won’t do any inspection.,The other day 2 siblings died by falling into a pit dug by BMC contractor. No action taken against the BMC officials who failed to inspect the work.
