Revealed: China’s new ‘drone-craft carrier’ threatening the West

China may have quietly built the world’s first “dedicated” drone carrier to add to its expanding naval fleet, according to new satellite images from a Chinese shipyard.

The images of the ship, whose design is approxmately one third the length and half the width of a US Navy or Chinese Navy (Plan) super carrier, were first reported by Naval News and analysed by J. Michael Dahm, a senior resident fellow at the Mitchell Institute for Aerospace Studies.

Their analysis pointed to a form of aircraft carrier with a marked runway and a flight deck wide enough to operate aircraft or drones with a wingspan of around 20 metres (65 feet) such as Chinese equivalents of the Predator drone.

The new ship has not been publicized by Beiing but, if verified, experts say it could underscore China’s aims to advance the use of drones in naval warfare and would put the Chinese military at the forefront of the global race to develop such drone carriers.

有分析指出，这是一种航空母舰，有清晰可见的跑道和足够宽敞的飞行甲板，可以起降翼展约20米(65英尺)的飞机或无人机，比如中国的捕食者无人机。

After the success of drones in Ukraine's defense this makes sense. It says a lot about how they can move quickly and open to new tactics.

I don't know that the US Navy hasn't started building a drone carrier. I do think we should if we haven't started already.

Chinese innovate and build faster than the US. Human operated aircraft on Navy ships is becoming obsolete. US can't impose tariffs on Chinese drone craft carriers.

Because China can dictate processing power even when it doesn't make a ton of profit.  In the US profit > everything. It doesn't always make sense.

Some of those military equipment do tend to be quite expensive, like toilet lids going for $10,000 apiece and bottled water for 800 bases around the world at $100 apiece. LOL
