India to become world’s 4th largest economy by 2025 by overtaking Japan, predicts Amitabh Kant

Big achievement! India is on track to surpass Japan as the world's fourth-largest economy by 2025, according to Amitabh Kant, India's G20 Sherpa and former CEO of Niti Aayog. According to Kant, based on several positive macroeconomic indicators. India's GDP currently ranks fifth, following the United States, China, Germany, and Japan, having overtaken the United Kingdom in 2022.

India's economic growth has been remarkable, considering that just ten years ago, its GDP was the eleventh largest globally.

According to an ANI report, Kant has highlighted several key factors contributing to India's ascent from being part of the "Fragile 5" in 2013 to becoming one of the top 5 economies in 2024.

These factors include record GST collection, consistent GDP growth of over 8% in the past three quarters, the use of the Indian Rupee for trading with 27 countries, and manageable inflation levels.

根据亚洲国际新闻社的报道，坎特强调了几个关键因素有助于印度从2013年的”脆弱5国”之一跃升至2024年的全球5大经济体之一。

Indian Rupee has been steadily depreciating against the US dollar. Hence, whatever growth may be in GDP in rupee terms is likely to be washed away by the depreciation of the currency against the dollar. Hence, all this prediction about India overtaking Japan must be taken with a truckload of salt unless the GDP is calculated in terms of a fixed exchange rate for the INR to USD!
