Hiker finds pipe feeding China's tallest waterfall

A controversy over a waterfall has cascaded into a social media storm in China.

A hiker posted a video that showed the flow of water from Yuntai Mountain Waterfall - billed as China's tallest uninterrupted waterfall - was coming from a pipe built high into the rock face.

一场关于瀑布的争议在中国社交媒体上掀起了一场风暴。

一名徒步旅行者发布了一段视频，显示云台山瀑布—号称中国最高的不间断瀑布—的水出自建在岩壁上的管道中。

The clip has been liked more than 70,000 times since it was first posted on Monday.

Operators of the Yuntai tourism park said that they made the "small enhancement" during the dry season so visitors would feel that their trip had been worthwhile.

Park officials told CCTV that the water they used to pump water into the falls was spring water, adding that it would not damage the natural landscape.

We did see real pandas at the Shanghai Zoo but it was so hot (104 degrees) that they did not want to move (and I couldn't blame them).

When I plan on hiking waterfalls, I factor in recent rainfall when it's relevant. I don't want people artificially creating the experience, one is there to see natural beauty.

Our Potemkin village has a fake waterfall, but it's just a tiny fraction of the Yuntai Mountain Waterfall's height and volume.  The village did a better job of concealing the pipe a few years ago, and now allows it to run even after tourist season.

They do it at Ruby Falls in Chattanooga Tennessee when it is dry and no rain. Is still awesome to see even knowing you may be seeing water being pumped in.
