8 dead, several injured as Kanchanjunga Express collides with goods train in Darjeeling; helpline numbers issued

特快列车在大吉岭与货运列车相撞，造成8人死亡，数人受伤

NEW DELHI: At least eight died, and over 20 people sustained injuries after the Sealdah-bound 13174 Kanchanjunga Express collided with a goods train on Monday morning near New Jalpaiguri.

The incident occurred around 9 am near Rangapani, close to the New Jalpaiguri station. The Kanchanjunga Express was en route from Agartala to Sealdah when the accident took place.

事件发生在上午9点左右，地点在朗格帕尼附近，靠近新杰尔拜古里车站。事故发生时，干城章嘉特快列车正在从阿加塔拉前往西尔达的途中。

The collision resulted in the derailment of at least two rear compartments of the Kanchanjunga Express. The locomotive of the goods train struck the express train from behind, causing significant damage and derailment of the compartments.

The divisional railway manager (DRM) of NFR's Katihar division said the impact of the collision led to the derailment of the train's rear compartments near Rangapani station, approxmately seven kilometers from New Jalpaiguri station.

这次列车相撞事故导致干城章嘉特快列车后部至少两个车厢脱轨。货运列车的火车头从后面撞上了特快列车，造成车厢严重损坏并脱轨。

The report isnt clear about which driver disregarded. Express or goods? Instead of passing on blame to humans. Recheck the procedures (SOP). As i understand from report. The Express left a Scheduled stop. Reached an intermediate station due to signal malfunction. Permission issued to proceed disregarding further reds, but still it stopped at (may be) outer signal. The station master ASSUMED theExpress has gone and gave clearance to goods train FROM ANOER EARLIER HALT.

This is happening due to bad politics in India, you are giving jobs opportunity in Central government position mostly to the reserved category and minority people by putting the life in risk for millions of people. For any kind of mistakes of government employees there is only order of enquiry and limited period of suspension, why can't it be a termination from job and imprisonment for years.

Clearly it is communication problem. Railway station manager should have notified every trains including goods train of signal failure and take care of how he drives the train. Goods train driver was given clearance to go through red light.There is something wrong with the what comunication occurred. May be driver of goods train ignore some of the warning.

if there was fault in the automatic signal system from morning then why speed was not regulated in that section? the speed of the goods train must have been considerable for the impact. Secondly railway should focus on anti collision technology upgrade atleast gradually.
