India is going through a climate crisis! In some parts, extreme heat is causing bats to drop dead and people to suffer. In Delhi, temperatures hit record highs, with devastating consequences, including the deaths from heatstroke. In other regions, like the northeast, heavy rainfall and cyclones are causing severe floods and landslides. As climate change intensifies, India faces a future of more frequent and severe heatwaves, unprecedented storms, rising sea levels, and widespread desertification. Despite the escalating dangers, the government remains largely silent, failing to address the urgent need for action. With 90% of India's population at risk, particularly the poor and those who work outdoors, the crisis is deepening, yet it barely makes headlines or political discussions. But how big is this problem and why is our government silent?

Fast forward in 2024, the air quality has improved dramatically which is quite a remarkable achievement ...Indian cities please work on improving air quality for the better future of the country...It's not impossible

When tribals were fighting for their water, forest and land people said they are anti development and what not. Ministers are busy filling their pockets when they should have been working with researchers, consultant, and people are busy with their lives living paycheck to paycheck.

One way to reduce urban heat island effect is planting more trees and creating green spaces in cities as buffer zones to combat the heat and pollution. But our Indian cities lack proper planning. We have a strict environmental law framework but lack the conviction to implement them. Public are to blame as well. We as humans are becoming more selfish and consume more, and we don’t hold our politicians accountable.

Mohak, I wanted to add that EVs won't solve the climate change, Public Transit will.

The more we can reduce private vehicles and increase the usage of Buses & Trains, the more it will be helpful for us!

Even in Jammu temperature in summers has reached 45 degrees and in winters it falls upto 12 degrees with intense fog. Temperature in summers used to be 40 degrees max and 20 degrees min in winters

Not just climate. I’m also scared for the basic necessities like water, which is getting depleted due to unregulated construction, and air, which is beyond polluted. Basics. I don’t think our children would even survive long enough to see the consequences.

Everyone thinks that people move abroad to make more money. The true reality is that they move for these basics, even if savings (after taxes) is lower than India.

If you notice North India has very less tress compared to other parts of country. They should start forestation to minimise heat effects.
