China has claimed that its Fujian aircraft carrier is the world’s largest conventionally powered vessel – running on traditional fuel, instead of nuclear power. State media CCTV released fresh details of the vessel’s design on June 21, 2024, saying the ship has an advanced electromagnetic catapult. Such technology was previously believed impossible to implement on vessels that do not have nuclear power plants, and the advancement is expected to allow carriers to launch heavier aircraft more frequently. Sea trials of the Fujian have been viewed as sending a signal to all parties in the South China Sea and East China Sea about the People’s Liberation Army’s combat abilities.

中国声称其“福建舰”航空母舰，是世界上最大的常规动力航母，使用传统燃料，而非核动力。

When Endia started its project of its homemade aircraft carrier,  China had none. when Endia completed their carrier China has put 3 in commission with the fujian at its near completion.

I think this carrier is an impressive achievement, but saying you have the largest non-nuclear carrier is like saying you have the world's best WNBA player.  It might sound impressive, but it just can't compete with the best in the world.

Undoubtedly China is using this carrier as a test bed to iron out the bugs for when they start producing nuclear aircraft carriers in the future.
