Very interesting snapshot of what is happening with turning deserts into useful agricultural lands. China is moving towards self-sufficiency in food and that is a plus for China.  Other countries should follow China's lead to make food self-sufficiency top on their agenda for economic growth and stability.  Not mentioned, but equally important is China's development of 'sea rice' that can grow rice in saline areas that are also unproductive land areas that have potential for agriculture. While China is leading the charge in this sector of sustainability, I would think its greatest promise is in Africa where there is a huge potential that once water is brought to fertile lands, Africa could become the food basket of the world.

When I heard China was breeding 1, 2000,000 rabbits to release in their deserts to spread seeds I lost it. They are, and I will give them credit for it, trying to regrow sections of their arid lands but for that to succeed they need to address the reasons for desertification in the first place not just plant trees everywhere. The problem with the Chinese is their propaganda people get involved and then the exageration and outright lies start.
