A decade after the Belt and Road Initiative was announced, Russia’s initial resistance to the plan has given way to collaboration with China to integrate with the Eurasian Economic Union. Facing economic sanctions from the Ukraine conflict, Moscow’s weakened dominance over Central Asia has forced it to engage with Beiing. The uneasy alliance to boost trade and transport across Central Asia remains fraught with challenges. As Western forces enter the fray, Central Asia has to navigate through the strained and opportunistic nature of multilateral relations in power politics, especially Sino-Russian relations.

Russia and China complement each other well in many economical aspects and working for a mutually prosperous goal stabilizing central Asia is a worthy goal that benefits all involved.

Honestly, it's major loss for the west. Russia didn't want a war with NATO but I expect that the US especially was worried that the EU might shift more towards Russia and China as these countries provide much better economical opportunities for the EU.

Provide Central Asia with 3.8 billion dollars.  They should build a canal from the Yellow and Yangzhe rivers to the Caspian Sea and refill Lake Balkhash and the Aral Sea while there at it.   Over time the other somewhat large lakes can have canals added to them as well as Siberian and Far-East rivers that flow into the Arctic Ocean.  It would turn Central Asia into a paradise and would be the catalyst for China to build mega cities in West China, and a northern canal at the western end could mean fresh water travel from Chinese Sea to the Atlantic.
