NEW DELHI: A six-storey building in Surat's Sachin area collapsed on Saturday, resulting in seven deaths in the Sachin area of Surat in Gujarat.

Basant Pareek, the chief fire officer of Surat, provided details of the incident. "Around 3:55 p.m. on Saturday, we received information about the collapse of a building," Pareek was quoted as saying by ANI.

苏拉特的首席消防官巴桑特·帕雷克提供了事故的细节。“周六下午3点55分左右，我们收到了一栋建筑倒塌的消息，”ANI援引帕雷克的话说。

"Approxmately 20 fire officers, along with the administration, rushed to the spot. We conducted a search and rescue operation throughout the night," he said.

He further added that a woman was rescued safely from the debris and a total of seven bodies were retrieved.

"During the operation, we heard a woman's voice from beneath the debris. After digging out the debris, the firemen safely rescued her. We continued the search operation and have so far recovered seven bodies," he said. This woman was the only survivor found in the wreckage.

“在搜救过程中，我们听到一个女人的声音从废墟下面传来。在挖开废墟后，消防队员成功救出了她。我们继续搜索，目前已经找到7具尸体。”这名女子是在废墟中发现的唯一幸存者。

"There are no reports of any more missing persons," Pareek added, though the search operation continues to ensure no one is left unaccounted for.

The collapse occurred among 30 flats in the building, of which only 4-5 were occupied at the time.

The very statement that only 4 flats were occupied indicates the building was in a precarious condition. Was any evacuation notice issued and these four flats' occupants had not yet evacuated? Reporters should have or at least as a follow up ascertain this and issue a clear news item.
