India to fast-track China visas after businesses hit by delays

India’s government is finalizing rules to cut down visa delays for Chinese technicians, responding to complaints from businesses who say the restrictions are hurting the country’s ability to become a manufacturing hub.

The Department of Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade is working with the ministries of home and external affairs to put in place a framework that will fast-track visas for engineers and technicians needed to install Chinese-made machines in Indian factories, people familiar with the matter said.

印度政府正在敲定减少中国技术人员签证延误的规定，以安抚企业，他们表示这些限制正在损害该国成为制造业中心的努力。

知情人士表示，工业和国内贸易促进部正在与内政部和外交部合作，建立一个框架，为在印度工厂安装中国机器所需的工程师和技术人员快速发放签证。

The aim is to cut down the visa processing time to within 30 days from the 4-5 months it currently takes, the people said, asking not to be identified as the discussions are private.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government imposed strict rules on China following a deadly 2020 border clash between the two nations that led to a downward spiral in relations. Hundreds of Chinese apps were banned, approvals for Chinese investments and visas slowed and direct flights between the two countries were cut. Local media estimated that India issued just 2,000 visas to Chinese nationals in 2024 from about 200,000 before the pandemic in 2019.

There are on-going talks to resolve the border crisis but ties remain strained, with New Delhi insisting relations can’t return to normal until the dispute is settled.

Personally seen Industrialists and technocrats going for same cost machinery from China as it pays kickbacks even when same machinery is available in India of better quality The Industrialist who take loans from banks and FI manipulate purchasing & buy these chinese machines and take kickbacks even Engineers chip in to get there cut. Since corona Chinese haven't been granted visas for commissioning these machines so for so long how these machines are commissioned and run These Chinese engineers are nuisance take photographs videos of other nearby Indian or Western machines to copy them Use hidden USB and pen drives to connect to our systems which we did not scan when caught say just sorry we forgot to show this pen drive.

Our Engineers are more capable to install and run the machine and have been doing for 4 years now. Chinese if required give help online remotely for electronic related issues for that they dont require visas thats why Chinese are feeling frustrated to not be able to enter India We stand with Govts policy No Visas to hostile countries China or Pakistan No business if u squat on our borders and trouble our brave Jawaans

Sorry u are mistaken without China make in India in defence sector is a reality and a success. The greedy Industrialists for cheap machinery and kickbacks go for Chinese machinery while its still available in India. Western countries also dont give kickbacks while Chinese deposit in whatever foreign banks u want them to. There machinery is cheaper as Govt is giving them subsidies and incentives which Indians manufactures arent getting

Maybe it's temporary to pressurize china but I think until trade is not reduced it's nearly useless because our trade with china is soon crossing 100 billion dollars
