If you want to see why India is not China, just visit both.  You can even compare 90s poor China to today's India, China was poor then, but not chaotic and messy as even today's India.

China doesn’t have the problem of various religions that can be hostile to each other or the caste system. As a woman I’ve travelled through China for 5 weeks, very safe and modern. I wouldn’t attempt this in India. Comes across as chaotic, dirty and somewhat dangerous for women. I have read that de ocracy doesn’t work too well in nations with huge populations. Don’t know enough about economics to make a comment. Also India has a poor rural population

India not only puts hurdles in the way of foreign investment they now also are taxng out of the 1.5 billion people the middle income 3% of eligible income tax base at the rate of 30%.  So all the highly skilled high earners are leaving India for a better quality of life. The govt taxes like the Europeans but provides facilities like the Ugandans. Probably worse than Ugandans no offense to Uganda. Worst air quality, worst hygiene, no or shit public healthcare, overflowing public transport system, corrupt broken infrastructure, power cuts, water shortage, more than 10% inflation in urban areas while you play almost 45% taxes on all your income. If you want to start a business, pay a corporate tax of 25% and other kickbacks to local politicians. Its a dog eat dog dystopia.

India can't compete with China because most Indian intellects are educated in the west ideologies, and therefore tends to think in terms of short term gains while ignoring long term pains. Democracy in India has also caused economic progress on a mode of two steps forward, but one step backwards symdrone, given the when opposition parties gain political power, they invariably reverse the economic policies of the previous government. More importantly, the Indian Caste system has directly deprived India of at least 800 million rural poors of their abilities to contribute meaningfully to India's future endeavors.

Let me summurize it for you. China had a workers revolution. India did not.

Every other argument descends or is subordinated to this root cause. Everything else like cultural diferences are excuses.

What matters is: China has a  sovereing politic system capable of making decisions in the best interest of it's people even if it goes agaimst international capital  interests.

India political elites are still tied and subordinated to international capital and still has remenats of a class system.  This prevents their goverment from taking trully sovereign decisions on the behalf of its people.

They still have to please international capital and this traps their development.

我总结一下。中国发生过工人革命，印度没有。

所有其他的争论都次于这个根本原因。文化差异等都是借口。

重要的是：中国拥有一个主权政治体系，能够做出符合人民最大利益的决定，即使这违背了国际资本的利益。

The success of a country depends on the willingness of individuals to work hard. India is currently so corrupt and so dirty (see for yourself or watch YouTube travellers) that the individual has little confidence that their hard work actually leads to wealth. In China, individuals can get rich, that’s why so many women have become super rich.

Because China is an export oriented economy, whereas India is a services based economy.  

The good thing about export oriented economies is they can provide jobs to large swaths of people, whereas IT services only creates jobs for the educated upper class.

And in order for you to have a strong export economy, you need to have infrastructure to get your products to port to be exported.

Because China has a strong central government, they can build roads, infrastructure, ports, electric grids, power plants, sewage systems with very little impediment. India has too many different parties to appease at the federal and local lvl before they start building due to its de ocratic system.

With good infrastructure and a large willing labour force, foreign investors and local entrepreneurs were more willing to set up factories in China.

This partially explains why India's economy has lagged China's.

When it comes to IT, I was working in few companies which cooperated with or eployed Indian IT "specialists" (i.e. software developers, tech support etc.) and from my experience, vast majority of those devs were of very low quality. And it's the same for customer service. It's also worth mentioning that Apple has (or at least had) massive issues when it comes to quality when they moved part of their production from China to India. So I wouldn't say that India is such a "powerhouse" when it comes to IT as people may think.
