KALABURAGI: The suspicious death of Parashurama, a Dalit sub-inspector, at his residence on Friday night has triggered a controversy with his family alleging cash-for-transfer demands and mental harassment by Congress MLA Channareddy Patil Tunnur and his son Pampanagouda (Sunny).

The MLA and his son were Saturday booked on charges of intentional insult with an intent to provoke breach of peace, abetment of suicide and joint criminal liability on a complaint by Parusharams's wife, Shwetha.

The family claimed that Parashurama, 35, paid Rs 30 lakh for a posting at Yadgir city police station to the MLA but was transferred before completing a year.

In her FIR, Shwetha has alleged that the MLA and his son demanded an additional Rs 30 lakh to allow her husband to continue his service at Yadgir town police station. When Parashurama failed to meet their demand, he was transferred to the cybercrime station on July 30. Parashurama returned home Friday afternoon after a farewell from his old police station. It is suspected he had a cardiac arrest in the night. He was found bleeding from his nose and mouth and was declared dead at a private hospital. His father found him and rushed him to the hospital. Shwetha, who is pregnant, was in Raichur at her parents' house.

Shwetha alleged that her husband died due to mental harassment and depression caused by the demands for money. She said that her husband had served only seven months at Yadgir town police station before being transferred. "The MLA did not give the posting as we are Dalits and we were not able to give him a bribe for the posting," Shwetha alleged.

Meanwhile, Dalit organisations and Parashurama's family protested on National Highway 50, demanding the arrest of Patil. They accused the police department of siding with the MLA and claimed that Parashurama faced repeated mental torture for money.

It happens all the time. Specially when a cop reqursts for preferred posting. It is norm with cops and politicians. His being a Dalit has nothing to do with this transaction.

it is a fact if he is giving bribe of 30 lacs, it is natural that for recovering this amount, he will take more bribe, may do more corruption.
