The hurried and rather unceremonious departure of Sheikh Hasina from Bangladesh hasn’t just wrong-footed the Indian government but also left it faced with possibly the biggest foreign policy challenge in the neighbourhood in recent times, one which might make the storm in ties with the Maldives this year look like a walk in the park.

In a sign of things to come, reports from Dhaka said that Hasina’s Awami League would be kept out of the interim government that the army is forming, while representatives of opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and the banned Jamaat-e-Islami would be included. While Jamaat is known for its links with Pakistan, the BNP, which didn’t contest the election earlier this year because it wasn’t held under a caretaker government, has never lost an opportunity to stoke anti-India sentiments. Together they fanned what started out as a genuine student movement in early July into a violent countrywide agitation for regime change.

This is what happens when you rig the elections to usurp power and ignore the people's will and aspirations. BJP must learn lessons because it is very difficult for right wingers to fool people for a long time particularly in a country with huge population (almost one third of the world). I won't be surprised if we see similar revolution happening in India in future simply because of a large divide between people and the privileged few who own 90% wealth of the nation.

That isn’t the only fear, the real fear is that what happened first in Sri Lanka, is now repeated in Bangladesh, and it could happen in India too if the government does not change its auth rian attitude and fix things up for the betterment of ordinary Indians.

China is successful in i st ling govts of its choice in Nepal , Myanmar, Maldive and now in Bangladesh. Srilanka is already in its hands. US and Britain installed its own choice govt in Pakistan but miserably both failed in India. Pappu is of their choice.
