2024年中国全球汽车出口激增,日本汽车出口下降

China’s foreign trade in the first half of 2024 reached US$2.98 trillion, a 2.9 percent increase year-on-year in dollar terms, generating a trade surplus of US$435 billion, up 8.6 percent year-on-year. In RMB terms, the trade expansion is even more substantial – at a 6.1 percent surge year-on-year. This growth highlights China’s robust performance amid a complex global trade landscape and accelerating economic momentum.

Exports played a crucial role in China’s trade expansion, totaling US$1.71 trillion, up 3.6 percent year-on-year. Key sectors driving export growth included electromechanical products, with integrated circuits and automobiles seeing impressive increases. Integrated circuit exports surged by 25.6 percent, while automotive exports rose by 22.2 percent, showcasing China’s rising position in high-tech and automotive markets.

2024年上半年,中国对外贸易额达到2.98万亿美元,按美元计算同比增长2.9%,贸易顺差4350亿美元,同比增长8.6%。以人民币计算,贸易扩张更为显著,同比增长6.1%。这一增长凸显了中国在复杂的全球贸易格局中的强劲表现。

Japanese automakers have never monopolized the car industry, and Toyota and Honda had record April-June earnings due to strong hybrid demand. They manufacture far more automobiles outside of Japan, so export figures have no meaning, except for specific models like 4Runner which are manufactured only in Japan.

Good, China doing well here.
In the first six months of 2024, they exported 2.79 million cars, a 31 percent increase compared to the same period last year. Second place in this ranking goes to Japan, which sold 2.02 million vehicles abroad—0.3 percent less than the previous year.

Although electrification is gaining momentum, the majority of vehicles exported from China are still internal combustion cars—2.19 million.

I don’t understand how Chinese can manufacture affordable EVs while European and Japanese can’t…for sure it can’t be the labour cost only…but from a consumer point of view if a product is good and priced correctly it should not matter from which country they come from…

Not an expert but I'm pretty sure I've heard that it's because China can manufacture almost 100% of the EV. From the batteries, motors, to the leather and screen on the dashboard -- are all sourced within China.

BYD as an example they make most of the thing themself so cut out the middle man, with vertical integration every part cost is greatly reduce. but most important is they invest huge amount in automation mean faster less waste.

Because China started working on EVs after the 2008 Beiing Olympics. They had to address poor air quality. They had a decade head start on the Japanese. Same reason they're way ahead on solar panels.
