The United Nations Secretary-General has acknowledged that the African continent deserves a permanent seat at the UN Security Council. Africa is the world's second largest and its youngest continent. It is home to 28% of the world's population but it is not proportionally represented at UN bodies. Africa deserves a UNSC seat. But will the current UNSC permanent members be willing to share powers.

@earthwormscrawl When you have the ability to destroy things you disagree with, then you have a veto power. It is the five permanent members who have given the United Nations rights, not the United Nations that gives rights to a certain country.

@ddiesel1836 The only victors were USSR and China. US had to wait for China to pin down 1.8 million Japanese soldiers in China and then dared to face less than 50,000 Japanese in the Pacific. If US were to face almost 2 million Japanese soldiers from the start, USA would have been blown off the map. Let's not even mention about UK. The 120,000 British soldiers defending Singapore (well rested and well equipped) surrendered to the 60,000 Japanese soldiers who had marched relentlessly from Burma, through the most lethal jungles in the world to attack Singapore.

But the British soldiers cowardly peed in their pants and surrendered without a fight. That was why after WW2, all British colonies (India, Burma, Singapore, Malaysia, etc) demanded independence and UK had no choice but to give in because the British had been exposed that it was (and still is) a very weak nation without any guts to take on a major power. That's why to this day, UK would rather be a lapdog of the US to pretend to be strong.

Africa will only be respected when they stop begging other countries for financial assistance AND start solving their own problems. sometimes, even when u don't have, don't let your neighbor knows that u don't have. fight it for yourself.

UNSC is not about playing population card. It has to do with technology, economic, and regional cultural influences.
