NEW DELHI: Had stainless steel been used to make the Shivaji Maharaj statue in Sindhudurg, it would not have collapsed, said Union highways minister Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday, as he advocated the need to use rust-resistant products in coastal areas.

新德里：周二，联邦高速公路部长尼廷·加德卡里表示，如果辛杜德格的希瓦吉·马哈拉吉雕像是用不锈钢制作的，就不会倒塌。他主张沿海地区需要使用防锈产品。

"I have been pressing for the last three years that stainless steel should be used in the construction of bridges built close to sea.

“在过去三年中，我一直敦促在靠近大海建造桥梁时使用不锈钢。”

When I (as state minister) was implementing the construction of 55 flyovers in Mumbai, one person took me for a ride. He put some powder-coating on iron rods and said those were rust-proof... But there was rusting. Now I feel in all roads within 30km from the sea, stainless steel should be used. If stainless steel had been used for the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji, it would have never collapsed," he said at a Ficci event.

“我（作为邦部长）在孟买督造55座立交桥时，有一个人带我去兜风。他在铁棒上涂了些粉末涂料，说这些铁棒是防锈的，但是生锈了。现在我觉得在离海30公里以内的所有道路上，应该使用不锈钢。如果贾特拉帕蒂·希瓦吉的雕像是用不锈钢做的，它不会倒塌的。”

Sindhudurg police have issued a lookout notice for sculptor Jaydeep Apte, who has been untraceable for over a week following the collapse of the Chhatrapati Shivaji statue at Rajkot Fort in Malvan.

Last week, Malvan police filed an FIR against Apte and structural engineer Chetan Patil under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. While Patil remains in police custody until September 5, Apte is still in hiding.

Wow, this minister is a metallurgy expert !! In a marine environment you should use nickel, aluminium and bronze alloys the same as those used for making ship propeller blades. These alloys are very strong, highly corrosion resistant and capable of withstanding high torsional forces. The minister should not poke his nose everywhere

Complete goof up, selection of IAS officers assigned the job, contractor, selection of architect and engineer, selectionof sculptures, Installation Engineers etc. The entire team starting from minister is responsible for this huge national embarrassment of our engineering capabilities. No proper assessment of materials and design suiting to site,, it appears, not done leading to this goof up.

Mumbai - Gujrat Highway

Not using stainless steel is only one side of the story. The real issues is that the inner structure (skeleton) itself is technically flawed. If you observe closely, it appears that the entire statue was bolted to the short struts on the platform. That is where things have gone terribly wrong. It is primarily a structural design issue. And in spite of using plastic/plex type of material if the structure has failed to hold, then obviously it would not have lasted even this long with the weight of steel.

没有使用不锈钢只是一方面。真正的问题是内部结构(骨架)本身在技术上是有缺陷的。

整个雕像是用螺栓固定在平台上的短支柱上的，这就是问题所在。主要是结构设计问题。

尽管使用了塑料或树脂类的材料，如果结构支撑不住，即使是不锈钢，也是无法屹立不倒的
