The catapult control station of China's Type 003 aircraft carrier has been revealed in detail by Chinese media. It closely resembles the integrated catapult control station on the Ford class carriers of the US Navy.

The Ford is said to have a reliability problem with its EMALS.  It is failing on average, at15% of its rated life. Last I heard, a redsign is not forthcoming until 2025. The Ford uses an AC electrical system and the Fujian uses a DC electricaly system.

The US Navy carrier fleet is nothing more than a tool to demonstrate a sort of malevolent "posturing."

These large ships cannot be protected from anti-ship missiles unless held at great distances from the "enemy."

The Houthi force ran off the US carrier from the Red Sea (..though denied).

So, what is the intended purpose of this (Fujian) carrier.      Is this nothing more than a "prestige" demonstrator??

Having a mobile airbase is a great help for naval ships, especially if they're out of range of land bases. If you wish to show power in an area mostly made of ocean a carrier isn't required but it's a great way to do that and it gets attention.

As for the carrier's defenses it does have multiple though most of the ship is reserved for aircraft, fuel, and weapons. That's why it relies on patrolling aircraft and the other ships around it who protect it from aerial, surface, and underwater threats. Vulnerable, yes, but obsolete, no.
