Residents have gathered outside a Japanese primary school in the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen to mourn a 10-year-old boy who died after being stabbed on September 18, 2024. The attack happened on the anniversary of Japan’s 1931 invasion of China. For many Chinese, it is a sensitive date viewed as a symbol of national humiliation. Japanese officials called for caution and improved safety around the anniversary.

I am Slovenian and my grandmother's two brothers were conscripted by the Germans in WW2 and later passed away on the Russian fronline. Today I hold no bad feelings against the Germans. What's the point? Even my parents weren't born during that time... I wish the Chinese could think the same.

3 On April 16, 2024, a Japanese Chinese couple
was burned to death in Tochigi, Japan.
Nobody said a thing. Nobody made a connection
to the anti-Chinese education in Japan. Nobody
even offered any condolences.

In 2012, I went to Naning to study abroad and met a Japanese guy. Around late 2011-2012, I think there was extra hate going on with Japanese people in China and he received somewhat constant text messages from the Japanese embassy to be careful. While he was never attacked, he experienced discrimination when he was on a tax and the tax driver said to him “if I knew you are Japanese, I would not have allowed you in my car”. Mind you, my friend speaks fluent Chinese and obviously understood everything. He laughed it off

My country was also colonized by japan, but we never really hated the japanese. We just chose to move on with our lives, and to not repeat the cycle of pain and suffering. This incident is really tragic, because this little boy has nothing to do with the war crimes his fellow countryman did in the past.
