'Quad is here to stay,' says PM Modi as India prepares to host 2025 summit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, at the Quad Summit in Wilmington on Saturday, emphasized the importance of the Quad alliance in an increasingly volatile global landscape, marked by tensions and conflicts.

印度总理纳伦德拉·莫迪周六在威尔明顿举行的四方峰会上强调了，在冲突日益加剧的全球局势中四方联盟的重要性。

In his opening remarks, while speaking alongside President Biden, Australian prime minister Anthony Albanese, and Japanese prime minister Fumio Kishida, PM Modi highlighted the progress made by the Quad countries—India, the United States, Australia, and Japan—since the inaugural summit in 2021 under the leadership of US President Joe Biden.

莫迪总理在开幕致辞中与拜登总统、澳大利亚总理安东尼·阿尔巴内塞和日本首相岸田文雄一起发言，强调了自2021年在美国总统乔·拜登领导下举行首次峰会以来，四方国家(印度、美国、澳大利亚和日本)取得的进展。

"It gives me immense pleasure to participate at this Quad Summit during my third term...Under your leadership, the first summit (Quad) of 2021 was organised. In such a short time, we have expanded our cooperation in an unprecedented way in every direction,” PM Modi said.

Realism is based on two guiding principles..Balance of Power and Deterrence. With China aspiring to emerge as a superpower in Indo-Pacific like Nazi Germany in 1930s or Japan during WW II, Realists feel the requirements for maintaining the Balance of Power in the region to avoid any conflict leading to war. Nations thus form flexble alliances to counter the Power like it happened during WW II or more recent IS uprising in Syria and Iraq. Also , enemy of enemy are friends. Similarly, there is a requirement of Deterrence by Power. QUAD is thus a flexble alliance to counter China in Indo Pacific. The alliance unlike classicak Realism, looks at cooperation beyond military coalition only which includes economic cooperation to counter growing economic power of China. The alliance also acts as a Deterrence to India's immediate neighbourhood who are more biased towards China barring Srilanka (depends upon election results). The alliance has other secondary benefits like socio-cultural integration, environmental issues etc.
