I was in Aeon Mall in the Suzhou SIP last night. All the too brands gave showrooms with enthusiastic staff. Chris of Zeekr showed us the new X which is available in Australia. It’s a tidy SUV which sells here for around A$35K. Roomy, light at 1.8 tons, range 530 km, fast charging, 4 or 5 seat configuration. Great value, great quality.

Back in 2016 I took a trip to China and Hong Kong. In China I was surprised that every one of the ubiquitous scooters on the road were electric. In Hong Kong I was surprised to see a lot of Tesla EV's. (Model S). Our tour guide told us that every new car sold in Hong Kong had a huge sales tax: ICE cars were taxed at 130% while electric cars were only taxed at 80%. I wonder what the tax incentives/disincentives are for ICE and EV's in China now?

What you fail to mention about Leapmotor is that their international expansion should in theory be easier than almost all over Chinese carmakers other than Chery, BYD, and SAIC, because part of the Stellantis deal to invest in Leapmotor is to obtain controlling rights of exporting/building/selling Leapmotor cars in every market OUTSIDE of China. Which means Leapmotor technically can access Stellantis' vast exsting sales/service networks all across the world. Now whether Stellantis will end up botching this like they botch so many other thing is a whole other matter entirely...
