Today, in conversation with Major Gaurav Arya, he talks about India's quest for 5th-generation fighter jets. He initially talks about the Chinese Air Force and tells how it is overpowering countries like the US in terms of numbers. He also discusses China's J-20 program and compares it with the US' F-35 jet. Going deep into India's 42 squadrons strength, he talks about the desired strength to counter threats like China.

For the engines, IAF is responsible not HAL, because IAF was hellbent on having American engines in Tezas. They always complain against Russian engines by saying they leaves trail of smoke. That's what I heard from many defence experts.

No doubt quality always stands first, but according to some experts quantity itself is a quality and I agree. We all have seen how hundreds of primitive Hamas rockets saturated the Israeli Iron Dome system Recently the Iranian missiles breached the Israeli AD system. If China sends say 10 or 15 J-31s after  every F-35, I don't think F-35 will able to escape since they don't carry that much air to air missile.

The only solution is to devlop kaveri engine to boost fighter aircraft production  and also devlo s 500 like defence systems to counter stealthy platforms of adversaries

Quantity matters ofc. Germany lost the 2nd WW because they didn't have the numbers, rather quality. The Soviets and the USA had the numbers.

Excellent presentation. Perhaps the next Podcast could be  a focus on Air Defense Systems (Surface to Air Missile Systems, Electronic Counter Measures, Laser Guns etc). Large numbers of these systems could be procured and deployed at a comparative lower cost to complement the Air Force.

I think the time for indigenous engine or a fighter jet could be drastically reduced if DOD is actively buying or hel indian ventures plus the young generation in India are fascinated by the Airforce or defense industry

India worrying about China is like Pakistan worrying about India.

They are not even competing with India. They have their equation with US.

It is crucial to correct the trade equation and simultaneously improve our defense capabilities while taking diplomatic support from like minded countries.

But IAF should add 5 squadrons of f-35 which will be a huge force multiplier and which will force the chinese to sitback because having the capability of F-35 is a huge deterrence and u’re almost guranteed that u will have no pakistani fighters circling around indian airspace for a decade or so…

I am totally in agreement with the Chief's conclusion on increasing IAF's strength in a phase manner while India works on Fifth Gen aircraft on an accelerated schedule. The point is India's decision making process is so slow.
