NEW DELHI: After a 15-year gap, India has reclaimed its position as the leading source of international students in the United States for the 2023-24 academic year, surpassing China. According to the Open Doors Report on International Educational Exchange 2024 report released on Monday, India registered a 23% year-over-year increase, sending over 3.3 lakh students to the US.
时隔15年后，在2023- 2024学年，印度超过中国，重新成为美国最大的留学生来源国。根据周一发布的《2024年国际教育交流门户开放报告》，印度赴美学生人数同比增长23%，超过33万。
The development mirrors India's performance in UK, where it became the top source of non-European Union students in 2022-23, with a 39% increase to 1.7 lakh students, surpassing China. The growth in Indian students in the US is most notable in graduate programmes, which saw a 19% increase to almost two lakh students, and in optional practical training participation, which surged by 41% to over 97,000.

India and China together accounted for over half (54%) of this total. However, while India's numbers surged, China's enrolment declined by four percent to 2.7 lakh students.

Most of the Indian students now in US are the H1B visa holders who have lost their jobs and are looking at STEM courses to extend their stay by (1 study 3 OPT) 4 years. Few of them have recovered the money spent on their earlier education and are again depending on their parents Indian earnings to finance their US study. They are unwilling to accept the inevitable. US is not for them.

it's the reservations and foreign craze. they won't keep their tea cup or meal plate in the kitchen but abroad they will do anything. the universities abroad survive on foreign students as they bring lot of moolah.

What is so big and feeling proud of going to U S and UK for studies. The fact is 99.9 percent who go to,U S or Uk are for that matter European countries the main objective is to settledown in that country and obtain citizenship.They enroll in the universities or fake private institutes as an investment to get a job later. It has nothing do with the studies nor studying in US Uk makes a person more learned intellectual and efficient. it is often one sees that indian parents feel so proud that their children are in US etc. and try to exhibit their superiority and arrongantly say that they visit their children often and run down India's standard of living and administration etc.. It is not wrong to go abroad for studies and seek job and citizenship but what is sad is the erosion of ones humbleness, roots and development of superiority complex in the family.
