An increasing number of Chinese youths in their 20s are ditching the promise of cushy careers in the city, for a fresh start in the countryside. It’s part of a very recent trend of urban to rural migration in China, once unimaginable half a decade ago.

In the eastern Chinese province of Zhejiang, over a hundred young individuals, with an average of 25, turned an abandoned quarry in a remote village into Deep Blue – China’s biggest and most popular café that draws in thousands of visitors a week. Not far from the café, a group of young graduates help to rejuvenate a successful rural resort transformed from once abandoned village homes. In a remote village in the province of Sichuan, a former fashion designer ditched her urban dreams to revive the heritage craft of indigo dyeing in her rural hometown.

My parents grew up in the rural side in China. When they advanced in their careers, they moved to a big city, but they still maintain their rural home in a nice condition. I grew up in a city, though every once in a while I came back to the countryside and enjoyed much slower pace of life. Now I no longer live in China, but I still reminisce those simple days.

It's so touching and awe-inspiring to see CHina not only transform its large cities, but also the countryside. China really has a lot to offer in terms of domestic tourism and it needs the talent and vitality of the youth to bring it to life.

this can only happen because of the great infrastructure development in China. If you can easily travel from and to countryside through highway and rails, if you have good electricity and internet connection in rural area, it also mean you have no problems getting what you need from online and delivered, it also mean you have no problem go back and forth to big cities when you are bored living in countryside, it also mean it is possible if you choose to work from home. Without superb infrastructure, living in countryside with no electricity and good internet connection, I doubt many will choose that life. But this is good news for China, who tried to move more people to cities through urbanization to give them better paid works in the cities, while at the same time try to send more talents to the rural areas to serve the people who still living there.

这要归功于中国基础设施的巨大改善。

如果你可以通过高速公路和铁路轻松往返农村和城市，如果农村地区通了电，可以上网，网购就会方便，在农村生活无聊时，可以回到大城市，你也可以选择居家办公。

They didn't fit in the mold of the city life not that they aren't qualified. They are smart and independent. They just aren't motivated by money anymore. They're not allured by the glamour of city living. Passion and service are more important for them. I guess a lot from the younger generation are waking up to this.

I think RURAL is the wrong translated word for what they yearn for. I think VILLAGE LIFE is more appropriate, and it is similar to what is there in Europe. I think it is a noble idea for these young generation to transform Rural China to modern Chinese Villages, simple, neat, clean and picturesque.
