Study suggests that some of the Native American ancestors may have come from China. The research challenges the traditional view that Native American ancestors migrated from Siberia across a land bridge. By analyzing mitochondrial DNA from over 100,000 modern and 15,000 ancient samples, scientists discovered a surprising connection to northern coastal China.

I had a Chinese ex gf. She visited Alaska with me which has a high population of over 13 recognized Native groups. She noted the features of the groups to be more Asian. It makes sense given the proxmity to Siberia/ Asia. Even studies have shown similar language groups and customs across the Bering sea.

That doesn't mean that the current Han Chinese people (which is just a member of the Sino-Tiban group) of East Asia are their ancestors. They (Native Americans) share common ancestry with the Sino-Tiban, Austronesians, and Austro-Asiatic peoples.

What is modern day China historically was a melting pot of different cultures. Historically, Native American like people descriptions can be read in very ancient Chinese texts (Beidi), so this is no surprise. The people were more like Tungus than Han Chinese. So not too big a surprise.

East (north to south) Asians, regardless of ethnicity, but purely from a genetics point of view, are the most widespread population group in the world. Also, at the time they crossed to the Americas (entering from Alaska) there was no China nor any other modern or historical country/nation to speak of.

I don’t think Native Americans are 100% Chinese, but they would’ve originated from places within modern Chinese borders. Perhaps an ancient culture that co-exsted with modern day Chinese
