Scientists in China claim to have developed an "invisibility cloak" with invisible material, which makes for a chameleon-like colour breakthrough. Molecular changes make the material appear to blend seamlessly with its environment. Chameleon and octopus rely on a similar method to camouflage. But how does it work? How can this material be used? Why is humanity so obsessed with “invisibility”?

中国科学家声称已经开发出一种用隐形材料制成的“隐身衣”。分子变化使材料看起来与环境无缝融合。变色龙和章鱼正是依靠类似的方法进行伪装。但它是如何工作的？这种材料如何使用？为什么人类如此痴迷于“隐形”？

近日，在一场科学活动上，中国科学院院士褚君浩介绍了“多种光学隐身方法的效果测试”，现场展示了利用特殊材料实现的“隐身术”。

褚君浩院士请工作人员手持一块面板，起初透过面板还可看到人物的下半身，但将这块材料旋转90度之后，褚君浩院士的下半身“消失不见了”，但能够清楚地看到人物身后的舞台场景。褚君浩院士表示：“未来，哈利·波特的隐形斗篷将成为衣柜里的日常用品。”

实验过程中实现隐身的原理是什么？隐身技术走入日常生活还要多久？

揭秘“消失的下半身”

北京交通大学物理科学与工程学院副教授陈征介绍，褚君浩院士实现下半身“隐身”的原理是柱镜光栅。所谓柱镜光栅，是指柱面的凸透镜，可以想象为把一个透明圆柱从中间劈成两半，其中半个就是柱透镜，这些柱透镜并排组合就形成了形状类似瓦楞纸的透明又有周期性的折射结构，这个结构就是光栅。

柱镜光栅实现隐身的原理并不复杂。比如，找一个圆柱形水瓶灌满水，这时水瓶就变成了凸透镜，在水瓶后面稍远位置放置一根筷子，当筷子与水瓶平行时，在成像上筷子就变得非常细。如果在光栅的每个柱镜后都放置这个与柱镜平行的物体，此时物体的完整图像就被拆成很多的细线，由于细线相对于光栅的宽度很小，因此非常模糊，不容易被注意。

实验中将薄膜板旋转90度，就是为了使柱镜与褚君浩院士的腿平行。而之所以能看到舞台背景，主要是因为背景里的横条纹。这些横条纹在成像后依然是个完整的条纹，因此较为醒目，也正是这些横条纹足以吸引注意力，才使得隐身效果更为突出。

Dont know why its difficult to build invisibility cloak in the age of AI. You build a cloak with embedded chip, program it for making humanly objects behind it invisible. May not be that straight forward but shouldnt be that difficult too.
