China doesn’t hold all the cards, but it is already calling some major shots on European trade and security. Where that leaves Germany as Europe’s largest economy, is at the core of this week’s Berlin Briefing. DW’s Chief International Editor Richard Walker maps out the fact Germany’s chancellor and foreign minister still have “profoundly different views of the relationship that Germany has with China.” This fuels indecision between cooperation and rivalry and meets Chinese pro-trade “pragmatism”, a strategy DW’s Taiwan Bureau Chief Tsou Tzung Han warns could leave Germany’s security interests unaddressed.

Some 10-15 years ago, the GDP of the EU is larger than the US, around double that of China. Today, it is almost half of the US, and less than China. If this is the best European media can do in terms of analysis it's not hard to predict where its economy will be in another 10-15 years.

It’s totally nonsensical to about Russian use of Chinese drones and parts as Chinese military support for Russia. Hello, did you not know the Ukraine use them as much as Russia. And they are civilian drones.

Will Germany be able to have it both ways with the US after losing its industries to the US? That is a more interesting question. Germanic-Chinese cooperation has exsted for decades. No reason why this shouldn't continue.

If Germany's exports decline, then their imports will have to go down as well. And Germany's trade with China is pretty one-sided. So unless China starts to import a lot more from Germany, then i don't see how the cooperation can continue for long.

It's such a misfortune that the political spectrum of different countries in the world has been becoming more and more polarized and protectionism and populism are becoming more and more popular. I feel very sorry that we can't back to the "old good times" when the West and China could ignore the differences and cooperate to develop the economy. It's not my place as an ordinary person to judge the current situation and challenge. The only thing I can do is just hope the relationship between China and Germany will be better and we can somehow find a way to find a common ground for both since I love Germany so much and my first car was a German brand I really want things would turn out to be better.

EU has a massive trade deficit with China. We have been able to afford it because we have a trade surplus with other countries, especially with the US. But if EU exports decrease because of US tariffs, then we have to import less as well. You cannot spend more than you earn for long. So unless China starts to import a lot, then i can't see how there can be a lot of cooperation with China in the future.

欧盟对中国存在巨额贸易逆差。我们欧盟之所以承受得起对华贸易逆差，是因为我们与其他国家，尤其是对美国有贸易顺差。

但如果欧盟出口因美国加关税而减少，那么我们也必须减少进口。总不能入不敷出吧。
