Japanese automakers their sales in China are shrinking at a rapid Pace China has well and truly raced past Japan when it comes to exporting cars worldwide in fact China's exports have they're flown right by the total number of exports that the Japanese are making and in Japan they believe this is partly because of racism I've seen this numerous times reported in the media they say that the Chinese are now looking down their noses at the Japanese

Most people don't realize that Japan was a consumer electronics giant with brands like Sony, Panasonic, Hitachi, Toshiba and Sharp etc..., but they never made it in the cellphone or smartphone sector even before the smartphone era. China ate their lunch in the smartphone and now in the flat panel HDTV and EV sector as well !

A neat feature of the Atto3 is to take it cam. Besides lighting, and cooking, you can air condition your tent. Very nice.

I used to work for orix japan, japanese culture is difficult to turn around and adapt. It is like a huge oil tanker turning around at the sea

fahmad7194

China is ahead of the competition

ongsengfook

Nothing wrong. chinese also used to buy from Japanese carmakers.

scroopynooperz9051

Given Japan's proud automaking history, wouldn't it be a bit of a national embarrassment to have most of their fleet be Chinese cars?

harysastra

it is an indirect admission that Chinese cars are as good or perhaps better than Japanese cars themselves

Sidekick618

@harysastra yes, they did a couple of tear down of the Chinese made EV, and they were shocked by the design.

IN 1974 WE LAUGHED at the crappy little Honda Civic & in 1980 we proudly bought a Honda Civic

bobwallace9753

In 1977 I bought a Datsun pickup which was a great little machine. Drove it 300,000 miles with only minor repairs

FAFOrednickinsell

I had a Honda Civic for 18 years from the age of. 16!

Bought it for 18,000 dollars

never changed anything on it

Except the batteries and tires

Last 5 years I stopped any maintenance on it

Car got hit from behind the insurance company gave me 2000 bucks for it

antonilavin2488

I can’t remember anyone laughing at the Honda Civic in the 1970’s. My mother had one. Dad drove a Mercedes 350 SE and he thought the Honda was a great car.

crxdelsolsir

We stopped laughing at Japanes cars when their innovation, value and quality went up (under normal business conditions).

We still laugh at China because their quality is suspicious, their innovation is from stolen means and their competitiveness is not obtained through fair normal business conditions but rather nefarious state backing pretending to be a company.

Japan and China is not the same and not on equal abilities or progress.

It is right to still doubt and look at China in a suspicious and reserved and even justified to be lacking in praises.

FrankiePo89

 @crxdelsolsir
You're right, Japan and China aren't the same.
While Japanese are still comparing itself to western ice, China has managed to look past all of them.
China is competing among itself, just like what you learn in school, to always better yourself.

lucky889s9

And now civic cost at least $40k. All japanese brands gotten greedy, fat, lazy. Crazy price with all those plastics

sns1804

So, China EVs are doing business in Japan instead of USA. This is like the USA shifting LNG shipments from China to EU and 3 times the price.

mijmijrm

i think the Japanese corporate strategy is: once you hit peak success, there's no need for further progress

scroopynooperz9051

Lol that's not the Japanese mantra at all
That wouldn't explain Toyota being at the top and making quality cars for multiple decades.

The real question is how all the traditional car industry players have been caught with their pants down by the up and coming Chinese Automakers?

teoengchin

Japan had a good system. Then they sent all their executives to the USA to get MBAs and diluted their core values

calvyncraven1141

No. Japan believe too much in its homegrown biz philosophy: KAIZEN. Improve little by little every day. While China believes in its homegrown policy: Changing lanes & Shifting gears.

dimiberberu

The key is: Japan had good start but was inhibited by US dic ship. China learned the best techniques combined with Socialist Long term Planning & Community values for long term sustainability. Japan has lost its core values due to westernisation.

I hope Japan chooses the right side. i grew up in Japan as a teenager. Privately they are not really fond of America / Western culture. They think American music is cringe, English language is awkward. We were forced to take English class in public schools, we all hated it. But they feel they have to adapt to the American culture out of fear and pressure. I remember one funny kid in class said, we have no choice but to learn English - if we didn't, you know they have those airplanes fly by and we'd all be screwed. Thene veryone including the teacher laughted. I'm sure you know what he was referring to . But privately they think their own Japanese culture is more civilized and higher level than the American. With the rise of China, this validate their view that our Asian brotherrs are just as good if not better than crude Americans.

ChickensAndGardening

Yours is one perspective. Another perspective is that Japanese are wildly fond of American culture, and they admire Americans for their directness and open mindedness, even if they make fun of Americans privately.

I lived in Japan for 3 years while working as a designer at Toyota; this was due to them wanting to bring in the silicon valley culture and creativity from the US. I found that there is great respect for the USA in Japan. They respect China's innovation as well, as we worked together to study that market, in fact we took many trips to Shanghai as Toyota has an office in China. It's not a binary choice as you say. There are many sides, not just two. I hope China, Japan and the US will thrive

michaelfung4629

Very brave of you to say. I met Japanese guys from the UK in a bar in Ginza. They said exactly the same thing and more but they said no one can say this in public. The USA has 55000 troops on Japanese soil. Even more than Korea!

passby8070

Historically before the 19th Japan has always been adopting Chinese technology and culture. Look no further than the similarities in architecture, language and food. There are also some of the later adoption including Ramen and Karate. Right now it's just reverting to historical norms.

picandvideo

Japanese auto industry is done. They are completely dependent on North America market. Most countries prefer affordable NEV and maybe hybrids.

mutopz

The Japanese are still great at manufacturing. However, they just don't have the scale of the Chinese industrial capacity. Even the Japanese cars have many parts made in China nowadays.

saeidmomtahan4728

The Japanese relied to heavily on the US market and their dislike of Chinese products ( at least on the surface). Now it's too late to try to catch up. Counting on the US in any way seems to come with its perils
