Personally I think Shanghai is the heaven of public transportation passengers, let me share the info with you guys .

Shanghai Metro (Subway )

The Shanghai Metro is the world’s largest rapid transit system with a route length of 673 KMS (400 miles) and 16 subway lines (numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 16 ,17 and Pujiang line ), The subway system links the city and suburbs with 393 stations near top destinations and hubs. Over 10 million people use the system on an average workday. The Shanghai subway is fast, cheap, safe ,air conditioned and user-friendly, station stops and line information are announced in both Mandarin and English . Metro fares is cheap from 3.0 CNY (under 6 km) - 15.0 CNY ( roughly = 0.4 – 2.2 USD ).

Public Bus

Shanghai has the world's most extensive bus systems with nearly 1100 bus lines, operated by numerous transportation companies. Not all of Shanghai's bus routes are numbered - some have names exclusively in Chinese. Bus fares are usually 2 CNY, all buses in Shanghai are air-conditioned . Each year 50 more bus lines are opened or adjusted . Public Bus system service entire city and the suburbs and there are also long distance buses going to nearby cities.

Tax

There are more than 50,000 taxs serving in Shanghai. They are operated by over 100 tax companies. Tax fare is as below :

The Shanghai Maglev Train, first commercial Maglev railway in the world, was constructed by Transrapid of Germany in cooperation with the Shanghai municipality and the Shanghai Maglev Transportation Development Co (SMT). The route runs from Shanghai's Longyang Road subway station in Pudong to Pudong International Airport. The 30 km trip takes 8 minutes only and reaches a maxmum speed of 431 km/h (267.8 mph).

起步价：3公里（2英里）以内14.0元（白天），18.0元（夜间）

THE METRO:

地铁

Imagine saying this to a New Yorker.

Me: “I think Shanghai is the NY of China”.

Them: “WTF?! No way. You’re out of your mind. There’s no place like NY, baby! Tell me one thing Shanghai has on NY?

Me: A damn good Metro System.

Them: (Crickets)….okay…yeah…yeah they got us there.

The ease of which I can get around in Shanghai is one of the top 5 reasons why I find it hard to leave here.

I come from a State where we don’t have a metro system.

You have a car, or you’re screwed.

So having such an efficient transportation system, makes all the difference.

It’s clean.

It’s safe.

I’ve never seen an insect or rodent on the train.

It gets crowded during rush hour (of course), but for the most part it’s pretty mellow and you don’t have to wait too long to get a seat - if at all.

A new train arrives about every 3 minutes.

想象一下如果对纽约人说:

我：“我认为上海是中国的纽约”。
