It’s extraordinarily easy to navigate (they have both English/Pinyin directions on the wall).

It’s cheap. As of Nov. 2018 it’s 3.80–4RMB round trip (if you have the card).

The metro goes all over Shanghai.

And some lines make an announcement in both English & Chinese.

Once you do it a few times, it’s EASY.

THE BUS:

公共汽车：

I’ll be honest and tell you I’ve never taken the bus around Shanghai.

Though I’ve heard other expats tell me how easy it is to use.

It’s clean.

It’s safe.

And it’s pretty simple to navigate the route.

老实告诉你，我从来没有乘坐过上海的公共汽车。

但我听其他外国人告诉过我，搭乘公交车非常简单。

车辆干净。

安全。

路线查找导航非常简单。

DIDI:

滴滴

Didi is the Uber of Shanghai.

Taking a regular tax in Shanghai can be a crap shoot.

Some of them try to “take you for a ride”, if you know what I mean.

And that’s why Didi is amazing.

You get an estimate of:

• How long your trip will take
• How much you’ll pay
• You can follow their navigation route
• And of course, the driver is trying to get those 5 stars so they’re chill, they make sure the car is clean, they make sure it doesn’t smell like smoke, and more. Most don’t even talk to you if you don’t speak the language, which I’m okay with. The silence can be nice.

Didi usually runs all day and night.

After 3am though, it can be tough to find one.

You may end up waiting 30 minutes for one, which is understandable.

滴滴是上海的优步。

在上海乘坐普通出租车可能是种冒险。

你懂得的，有些司机会“带你去绕路”。

这就是为什么说滴滴那么棒了。

你能预估：

• 车程大概需要多长时间？
• 你要付多少车费？
• 你可以查到他们的行驶路线。
• 司机为了获得5星好评，会保证车辆内部干干净净，闻起来没有烟味等等。如果你不会说中文，大多数司机甚至都不会跟你搭话，这点我很喜欢。安安静静的很舒服。

滴滴一般白天黑夜都有。

但凌晨3点后要叫到车，有点难度。

你可能得等上30分钟，这也是可以理解的。

SCOOTER:

电动车

After you get over the “Mad Max” driving style here in Shanghai, expats buy a scooter and never look back.

Why do I say Mad Max?

Because traffic signals are nothing but a suggestion here - ESPECIALLY if you drive a scooter.

Red lights? Stop. For what?

Pedestrians walking in front of you? They’ll navigate through you.

Sidewalks? Yeah, expect them to jump that curb and then beep for YOU to get out of their way.

HAHA!

But every expat I’ve talked to, had the fears of the driving style.

They faced their fear.

Got over it quickly.

And they’re in LOVE with how easy it is for them to get around whenever they want.

我和所有外籍人士都害怕这种驾驶风格。

他们面对恐惧。

但很快就克服了。

最后他们爱上了这种可以随时随地四处走动的便利。
