Define “good”. Define “Chinese cars”. Cars produced in China by Ford, GM, VW, Mercedes, Toyota… are still Ford, GM, VW, Mercedes, Toyota… But chinese cars like Chery, JAC, Great Wall, Brilliance are not so good as american cars. Even French cars are better than Chinese cars by a whole lot. They have some qualities and they’re evolving, but don’t give up a tradicional brand for a Chinese brand just yet. Maybe in 15 years.

I’m not going to talk about the copycats. They’re lame. They’re made for the low-mid class in China that dream about a good car to have at least the looks.

Remember South Korean cars from 30 years ago? They were lame piece of garbage nobody wanted. But they focused on quality and today you can buy a Hyundai or a Kia that competes with Ford, Chevrolets, VWs and Toyotas in many levels. Don’t expect that from a Chinese cars, as they focus on low price and high level of gadgets. Right now, Chinese cars can’t be taken seriously.

If the OP believes Chinese made cars are better than American cars then it doesn't say much about the American car industry. Chinese cars, for now, typically perform worse when it comes to safety ratings. With time that could very well improve.

There's a story I heard about Volkswagen and their Chinese made cars. The quality of the locally produced parts did not match that produced in Germany so they wanted to import the parts. The chinese wouldn't allow it much to the dismay of the VW execs as it would lower their standing. They were told that as every car they manufactured there would be sold locally the government didn't care as long as the jobs were kept in China. Also the locals wouldn't care neither as they were used to poor quality and would consider it acceptable.

China currently outstrips the rest of the world in automobile production. They easily produce more vehicles than Europe, Japan and the United States combined. However they are not high quality automobiles.

Many of the Chinese automobiles from SAIC, Dongfeng, FAW and Chang’an are copies of production vehicles from Honda, Toyota, Volkswagen, Jeep, GM and Smart. They are usually equipped with engines producing far less horsepower than their legitimate counterparts and the emissions for their vehicles are notably higher. Likewise, features like brakes, suspension, steering and electronics are also sub-par.

Since the automotive industry is state-owned, and vehicles are distributed on an ongoing basis based on need, there is no competition, which tends to guide businesses to improve their products. Without business competition, the products remain at quality levels, which can be compared with U.S. vehicles made in the mid-1980’s, albeit with updated styling borrowed from other manufacturers.

So to answer the question, Chinese automobiles are in no way superior to any of their competition overseas.

I hope this is a joke.

Most chinese cars are literally illegal in Europe, becaue they can not pass the minimal safety and emission requirenments. I live in Bulgaria and we have/had the experiment it asseble Great Wall cars here and avoid the import taxes (now only the pickup trucks are still in production, due govermental orders). Cheap indeed (altrogh not that much chaeper). Basically ALL owners of brand new cars had to return to factory due some deffect. About 5 years lather you simply can not see any still on the road.

Chinese cars like Geely are getting better every day. However, I would not go that far and claim Chinese cars are much better than their American counterparts.

With that being said, passenger cars made in the US are usually perceived as very unreliable, gasoline-hungry and “roughly” assembled. In China we don’t really compare Chinese cars with American cars like Dodge and Chevrolet because they are not considered worth comparing to.

Tesla, on the other hand, is exceptionally popular. More than 10,000 Model 3 are delivered every month in China, making it the best selling EV in the market.

Answer = They aren’t. Not even close.

As others have noted, they are design rip offs, abysmal quality, and crashworthiness that wouldn’t pass most modern countries’ standards.

I would like the OP to make a few statements regarding why they think they are better. Either the Q is a troll, or the OP is Chinese and so heavily subjective they can’t see past their flag.

P.S. I travel internationally a lot, and have driven many, many cars of all origin.

Have not seen one that’s so good even compared to even Korean car manufacturers. However, Chinese manufacturers have also tied up with European, Japanese and American car manufacturers to improve versions that will passed China’’s standards. But I would not consider those Chinese indigenous cars. I bought a changan a mini SUV CS95 almost similar in design with a known brand for only US$14,800 three years ago and it is still working fine.

I don't know about that. I visited China a couple of years ago and I noticed that many people drove American made autos. The family that i stayed with explained that Chinese people perfered American made cars because they were better made and people were willing to spend additional money in order to own one made in the US, not American cars made in China. Now the family i stayed with was very well off and could afford to pay the import tax.

From my experience with Chinese vehicles and friends who've bought them also, they are great when it's new, but before the first year, things started falling off, breaking, etc.

The worst thing that happened was the lack of replacement parts and inability to order them and how long it took to get the parts they fulfilled the orders for.

Better off with Indian cars, trucks and motorcycles than any Chinese vehicles now and probably the foreseeable future.

A out the only thing that Chinese cars are ‘better' at is the initial price…and that's only if you overlook the long term cost of running the vehicle. Even Korean car makers far outclass the Chinese ones.

I mean come on; ‘Chinese product’ is synonymous with ‘fake, non durable trinket'.

 “Better” is probably not close to true. I’ve read a lot of articles about some of Chinese-brand cars and the main take away is that many of these cars start to show major signs of wear after just a couple of months. Particularly Rust, Weather Strips, missing pieces, loose bolts, etc.

Chinese cars are not made to the same strict standards other countries require, and that applies at every level of manufacturing and testing. These are growing pains and as a result, a lot of problems go overlooked.

Another issue is that Chinese cars directed at the masses are designed to compete on the roads with motorized scooters and bicycles. They’re incredibly small and humble, and because pricing is a major factor, a lot of features are missing and corners cut.

说“更好”可能并不对。我读过很多关于中国品牌汽车的文章，得出的主要结论是，许多中国品牌的汽车在几个月后就会出现磨损的迹象。特别是出现生锈，密封条，零件丢失，螺栓松动等问题。

I’m not an American, but I too would deny that this is the case. Here in South Africa, the Japanese vehicles are king (by which I mean mostly Toyota). Then it gets a bit vague, I’d put VW and Volvo pretty high up but these days they are easily on par with Hyundai and Kia. There is BMW and Mercedes, but they make luxury vehicles (or at least executive vehicles) and nobody wants them after they are 10 years old, so we’ll just ignore those. Next on the popularity/dependability ladder is Peugeot, Citroën and Renault/Nissan (the French cars), and below them the Indian cars (Tata, Mahindra). Dead last, even after the Indian vehicles, are the Chinese cars.

Where do American cars fit in? Well… GM left (again, as they always do), which pretty much leaves Ford. Given that Ford’s are assembled locally from parts that come from all over… it’s not even clear whether they are really American. I would put Ford just one down from the Japanese makers, right with VW and Volvo.

An engineer in China gets paid during the training and gets the same pay as a worker.

Where an engineer in the USA himself must borrow for his education and therefore must be able to pay his debt with his salary.

There is therefore a shortage of engineers in the United States and a surplus of engineers in China.
