Tesla CEO Elon Musk had expressed his desire to sell his cars in India as early as 2019. Three years later, the electric car major's founder isn’t really much closer. Musk said that Tesla is working through a lot of challenges with the government to launch its products in India. Responding to a tweet on the company's plans to launch its products in India, Musk tweeted: "Still working through a lot of challenges with the government". Musk & the Modi govt have been in talks, but disagreements over a local factory & import duties have led to an impasse.

特斯拉CEO官埃隆·马斯克曾表示,他希望最早2019年在印度销售自己的汽车。

This delay will only hurt tesla, they will lose a huge market share if they keep delaying. It will be better if they launch the cars and then gradually in a couple of years build their factories and start producing locally. TATA, BMW, Mahindra, Hyundai and many other companies have already lined up for releasing their cars in the Indian market, dozens of new electric cars will be released in 2022 with this much competition around if tesla delays their launch it will only hurt them.
