RAIPUR: Allegedly guided by tantric practices, a man swallowed a live chick and died from suffocation in a suspected case of superstition in Ambikapur town of Surguja district.

The man was reportedly made to believe that gul down the chick would fulfil his wish to have a child.

The victim Anand Kumar Yadav, 35, was a resident of Chhindkalo village near Ambikapur and was desperate to have a child. In his pursuit of a solution, he reportedly turned to a local tantric practices.

The tantric allegedly instructed him to swallow a live black chick as part of a ritual that'll grant him a child. After swallowing the chick, Anand fell unconscious in the yard of his house.

Despite being rushed to Ambikapur Medical College Hospital, Anand could not be saved. Doctors confirmed that the chick had got stuck in his throat, blocking his air-pipe, which led to his death. The chick itself also perished in the process.

A doctor at the hospital said that it was during the postmortem, they discovered the chick was stuck in Anand's throat, specifically caught between his windpipe and food pipe. After conducting a thorough investigation, they concluded that the cause of death was asphyxation caused by the chick blocking his airway.

According to local villagers and family members, Anand had been under the influence of tantric practices for some time. Despite being married for over five years, he and his wife had not been able to conceive, leading to increasing frustration. He sought guidance from a tantric, who suggested the ritual of swallowing a live chick to solve his problem, police suspect.

Family members, when questioned by the police, were hesitant to reveal much information.

They merely stated that Anand had collapsed after taking a bath and was later declared dead upon arrival at the hospital.

Police are also looking into the possibility that the death could be linked to the influence of the tantric practices.

It was because he wasn't able to procreate that he did this. Some tantrik (practices dark rituals, though I'm generalising) said to do this because the couple weren't able to have kids.

Sadly animal sacrifices are not uncommon in this part of the world. Rarely I've also heard of drinking a bit of blood of the sacrificed animal(just a spoonful) or taking a chunk a meat and eating it cooked.
