China’s Sharp Drop in US Oil Imports Shakes the US Economy: How Does Trump React?

US crude (CL=F) exports to China plunged by almost half this year as shifts in the nation’s economy weighed on demand and it bought more barrels from other countries including Russia and Iran.

Exports of US oil to China plunged to 81.9 million barrels over the course of the year, down 46% from 150.6 million barrels last year, according to data from Kpler. That knocked China down to the sixth-largest buyer of US crude, from second last year.

China’s slowing economic growth and its increasing use of electric vehicles and energy sources such as liquefied natural gas are reducing the country’s appetite for crude, with its imports from all nations sliding 7.2% from a year earlier. That softening demand in China has helped drive global oil prices lower this year, and the outlook for 2025 is a top focus for the market.

China also is shifting its sources of oil and imported about 26% of its seaborne crude from Russia, Iran and Venezuela this year, up from 24% a year earlier, the Kpler data show. Overall, the country still relies primarily on the Middle East, accounting for about 60% of seaborne oil imports.

What this article failed to state the obvious is that China is transitioning to renewable energy such as solar, wind, and hydro so it doesnt need as much fossil fuel.

There are many reasons China is buying less oil from the U.S. Many Americans do not realise that the United States is a major exporter of gas and oil. Americans are paying way more for these items than should be allowed. Which is further proof of the corporate greed that will take, take take. Puting their greed above all else.

It does not necessarily mean demand by China is waning. China is buying oil from other sources using RMB, the Chinese currency. Since China is not using US dollar, the Chinese purchases cannot be tracked by America. The same applies to other products purchased by China. The result is that America can no longer accurately forecast demand from China for a variety of products.

So what do you expect? We started a trade war with them. We went around to other countries and ordered them to not sell things to China. So China found friendlier markets and cut NEW deals. They're also moving forward with that renewable stuff like they promised during those climate meetings. Most (if not all) of the other countries that went to those meetings made similar promises (only China seemed to follow through, though). So yeah, they will buy less of our oil...BUT...we still got a pack of chumps "on the hook" in Europe. We started a big fight there and now...they no longer buy from the place that was close, and cheap and convenient. As long as we have a pack of obedient stooges that are willing to get played, our wallets are bulletproof. In fact, we can make up for lost profits by selling LESS oil and just jacking up the price.

Seriously China and Russia should have been close friends ages ago its the most sensible partnership for both Nations. It makes sense for China to cut it US demand for oil when they can get the same material from Russia with way less costs on moving it
