India on Monday got a step closer to becoming part of an elite group of nations with space-docking technology — ability to mate two spacecraft in space — with Isro’s putting two small satellites weighing 220 kg each, into orbit.

周一，印度空间研究组织（Isro）将两颗重220公斤的小卫星送入轨道，印度向跻身拥有空间对接技术的精英国家行列又迈进了一步。

The satellites, part of the Space Docking Experiment (SpaDeX) mission, lifted off around little past 10pm on the PSLV-C60 from the first launchpad at the spaceport in Sriharikota. They were placed in a 475-km circular orbit some 15 minutes later. The first of the two satellites was separated 15.1 minutes after lift off, and the other happened at 15.2 minutes.

As per M Sankaran, director, UR Rao Satellite Centre (URSC), the satellites — ‘chaser’ and ‘target’ spacecraft — launched separately will initially be released with a small relative velocity between them.

As reported by TOI earlier, the satellites, through a series of carefully choreographed manoeuvres, will distance from each other over the next few days before Isro attempts to dock them. If Isro manages this successfully, India would have taken the first serious step towards mastering the technology, something only the US, Russia and China boast of as on date.

Congratulations to Isro team ,My humble request is please do not try to get a place in Elite Club... either LEAD this club with doing new things first i.e. successfully doing work before any other country does. OR start our own Desi Elite Club which these countries will be dieing to be part of. Congratulations again.

ISRO, still we far behind than other countries in same league, we cannot lift a payload of more than 4500 kgs and put on GSO, whereas others do it very easily, we are dependent on Ariane, SpaceX etc. ISRO has to go a long way to have these technologies, please speed up. Jai Hind .

ISRO should talk to the government to get the authority and the budget to offer salaries and perks at par with their US and Europe Counterparts to their Indian IIT and IISc grads for employing them and use their talents and possibly lure them to come back home and bring their invaluable experience and technology learnt. China has done the same and has replicated almost everything the world manufactures in house over the span of 30 years. Why cant our GoI think beyond mandir masjid ??

Salute to ISRO scientists they could get high paid salery job at NASA but they dont go to NASA but made India proud world wide. ISRO scientists are not greedy like IIT's talented kids whose dream is to settled abroad...

Incredible feat!!,Just a bit painful that still we don't have a tool to save children falling in manhole etc but able to dock in space!! Is it that we aren't aware of our priorities or don't emulate things smartly?
