Nissan’s pending merger talks with its archrival Honda may give be its best shot at surviving. The third largest Japanese automaker by volume is struggling in multiple regions around the world, including the US and China. Cheaper, fresher alternatives are pushing it out of develo markets, while US dealerships day they are plagued with stale product and troubles around service and counterproductive sales incentives. Merging with Honda would create the third largest automaker in the world and give the combined company US market share comparable to Toyota and the Hyundai Motor Group.

Nissan once built quality as good as Toyota, but somewhere it changed, especially when Renault got there hands on it.  The transmission CVT was a bad thing and really pushed them in the red.

It's no big secret that the CVT is just absolute garbage. My sister for some strange reason and against my advice bought a brand new 2024 Nissan Sentra and within 6 months had to lemon law it because it had already had the sway bars, bushings, and three sets of motor mounts replaced.

It’s tough times for new car sales. No one is willing to spend 40-50k for an average car that’s full of electronics that’s going to break. Trucks are in 60-100k range. Unreal.
