I am not an economist, actually a physicist, but I am always amused when I here that India is the next superpower. Especially when the Indian media trumpets this false information. The poverty in India smacks you hard in your face. Extreme poverty, even when compared to some African countries. They have a huge religious and caste system problem. The country cannot hang on to its smartest scholars who leave the country at any opportunity. You just cannot compare India to China. It’s quite ignorant if you do so. China, in my view, is way ahead than any other country on the planet.

india HAS 'potential' to be the next rising super power but dont mistake that 'potential' for a 100% YES. until they resolve the internal caste system, poverty, energy supply, and infrastructure it will be hard for them to move up the ladder. Just because india has MORE people that means MORE mouths to feed therefore since the top 1% owns majority of the wealth (44%) the remaining 99% are just scra or lives in poverty. india will be another reflection of usa & UK with the rich poor divide gap gets bigger and bigger.

China's development goal is to free itself from its 100 year of humiliation and once again be the master of its own destiny, India, on the other hand, wants to inherited the role of the British empire, (at least in SE Asia) and be accepted by former colonial powers as equals. That is why China, despite its bigger economy, keep telling others that it is still a develo country, and India, always wants the west to see it as a super power.
