The problem is that middle class has no choices - any alternate to Modi is terribly horrifically worse. Middle class does not have resources to leave India and if it does not vote Modi but abstains,  catastrophic alternatives will grab power.

The real elephant in the room is the abysmally low-income taxpayer base in India (less than 4%). Far too many people evade taxes in India. Corporates get tax cuts, business owners rarely ever pay income tax, poor (and many self-declared 'poor') get everything for free and some sectors like agriculture are completely exempted from Taxes. This puts the entire load of fulfilling the wishes of billion plus population on SALARIED middle class who has no escape from this vicious cycle.
