Most challenging day of the Journey so far on the longest Highway in China! The 318 is very famous and I get to ride it on my electric motorcycle EVE. From falling over, to another flat tire and massive traffic jams well see it all and it certainly leaves quite the impression but mostly because of the beautiful landscapes and big mountains surrounding me. It’s gonna be quite tough reaching the hotel and I will probably run her empty but there’ll also be a surprise waiting for me at the end

上海—聂拉木公路，简称沪聂线，是中国境内的普通公路，为中国国家道路网的横线之一。编号为G318。是在中国华东、华中、西南地区的一条国道，起点为上海市黄浦区，终点为xz自治区日喀则市聂拉木县，全程5476千米，经过上海、江苏、浙江、安徽、湖北、重庆、四川、西 藏八个省级行政区。

从上海人民广场出发，一直延伸到中尼边境的友谊桥，这条全长5476公里的公路，几乎完美地沿着北纬30度线铺就。它穿越八个省份，串联四大文化带，横跨三个地理区域，是中国最具传奇色彩的国道之一

I cycled about 2,500 km along G318 from Chengdu to Lhasa in 2013, which is definitely one of the best memories of my life. The natural scenery there was absolutely insane and stunning. Most of the Tiban people I met were soooo hospitable, we had butter tea and barley liquor together and danced around the campfire at night. Such a memorable experience. It’s funny that in China the 318 is a renowned road, and that in the US, our renowned road (The Tail of The Dragon) has 318 curves in 11 miles. I now have to add the 318 to my bucket list.

China National Highway 318 runs from Shanghai to Zhangmu on the China - Nepal border. It is the longest China National Highway at 5,476 kilometres in length and runs west from Shanghai towards Zhejiang, Anhui, Hubei, Chongqing, Sichuan, and ends in Tib Autonomous Region.

The road from Shanghai to Nepal(Tatopani or Kodari) and Zhagmu in Chinese, built in 1967 changed the dynamics of China - Nepal relation forever. A little bit of breathing space for India locked Nepa,l still plays a crucial role. After 2015 earthquake the border port has been moved to Gyirong 70km west, used by the team to enter China. You guys have been travelling on G318 pretty much from the second day except when the team opted for more scenic southern route between Shigatse - Lhasa and sometimes on the newly constructed expressways.

actually it's not highway, it's just ordinary motorway, highways in China have at least 6 lanes(usually 8 lanes), 3 for each direction including one emergency lane.

Buckets are also used to refuel motorcycles in some parts of Hubei, especially in the northwestern part of Hubei. But they don't refuel next to a gas pump, they will have you park your motorcycle in a designated safe area, take the bucket to the pump to pick up the fuel, and then carry it over to refuel your motorcycle.
