With tensions rising in the South China Sea and the Trump administration pulling back from multilateral commitments, Indonesia is making its move on the international stage by staging major international 'Komodo' naval drills in Bali. DW's Georg Matthes reports.

印度尼西亚组织的“科莫多-2025”军事演习16日至22日在巴厘岛展开，俄罗斯、美国、中国、日本、法国、印度、英国等39个国家参与演习。演习包含多项任务，主要目标是演练为人道主义灾难中的受害者提供援助。

眼前俄乌冲突尚在进行，俄美关系解冻，两国领导人有望举行会晤，推动俄乌双方停火。在这样的特殊背景下，俄罗斯与北约国家共同参加军事演习，引发国际舆论关注。

俄罗斯太平洋舰队前司令谢尔盖·阿瓦基扬茨表示，此次“科莫多-2025”军事演习的安排是一个“重大转变”，反映了近期国际政治形势和美国新政策的相互作用。

俄罗斯派出太平洋舰队“尖锐”号护卫舰、“俄联邦英雄阿尔达尔·齐坚扎波夫”号护卫舰、“佩琴加”号中型补给舰参加。

Filipino here. We do have dispute with Malaysia? It’s old, the Sabah issue. Everyone here in the Philippines knows it is just part of the past and Sabah is Malaysian territory. We also have territorial dispute with Vietnam, but we don’t raise that issue since Vietnamese don’t ram our poor fisherman ships unlike China. We don’t even have problem with Vietnam, even our coast guard and navy works with them.

The difference between China's claim to the others is that the others are using their interpretations of UNCLOS, while China uses it's own '9 dash line' policy that is based on historical claim.

@kasper7203 you talk as if Indonesia is a small country that fully dependent to other countries. You are talking to the 4th most populous country that strategicaly located in the middle of trade route with huge natural resource.
Any country that have good and close relationship with indonesia will have the ability to controll asia-pacific trade route. The reason why usa have strong grip in south east asia, is because in the past they have close relationship with indonesia. But because in 90's usa messing up their relationship with indonesia, china come to have good relationship with indonesia and start to challenging usa's dominance in south east asia and able to kick usa as south east asia's largest trade partner

I already told you. From China's perspective, trade with Indonesia is negligible. China does more trade with nations much smaller than Indonesia including ASEAN, Vietnam. So China can afford to gamble and hope that whatever profit owning the South China Sea will bring in will offset minor loses from breaking ties with Indonesia.
On the other hand. China is by far the largest trading partner of Indonesia. Nearly 25% of trade is done with China.
It is not logical for Indonesia to fight China over the South Chinese Sea. There is no economic incentive that can replace China as a trading partner. It makes more sense to strike a deal with the Chinese that brings in even more money than what you currently make from trade.
Your other option is to confront China, lose 25% of your trade and potentially enter a war.
To me the answer is clear. Hope you will understand this time
