In the skies above China a prototype military aircraft was captured on camera during a rare daytime flight that appeared to be their top secret 6th generation J-36 fighter. If this prototype legitimately has the capabilities that these new images suggest it does - then it could mean the Chinese Air Force is leaps ahead in development than some previously thought. But what exactly are we seeing here? Is this a new fighter? Some kind of mini bomber? Or is it copy cat of an exsting American aircraft?

The three engine configuration is unusual and probably pretty complex to build and maintain, heat dissipation and inlet design being the most challenging. This is a somewhat educated guess, but the third engine could have three possible purposes. 1. Extra thrust at takeoff and acceleration, then idled when not required. 2. Use as a "cruise" engine to allow just one engine of a different configuration to provide thrust during loiter or subsonic cruise or a ramjet to provide power at high supersonic cruise. 3. However it turns out, this is just a prototype and the entire airframe may change completely if and when it goes forward into serial production. There has to be a certain amount of wait and see on this before everybody goes all chicken little about this. Remember how panicked people got over the MIG-25 until we got to look at one and found out it was a piece of junk with bad engines and low maneuverability.

J-20 has has flybys over Taiwan airspace and the taiwanese government admitted that their myriad of american air search radars failed to detect the jet. So given the track record the americans can safely assume chinese knows how to do all aspect stealth.

This was a photo op. I wouldn't doubt that China is making something but just like many of their other projects, this could just be a mockup. But the US always needs to remain ahead. It makes me sad to see people not understand how kee a hyper advanced military is required in this time of turmoil and pending threats.

The reason the jet looks like that is because we published concept art of how we want the 6 gen aircraft to look. China saw that and went ahead and came out with one first, but question its abilities. They don't innovate, they just copy, and if they coppied incomplete designs, they will have produced a flawed vehicle.

The result of what China is now is the consequences and results of events, knowledge and wisdoms of the past. The china government, but it's very different with the way how the Soviets where ran. That's because alot of the leadership philosophy are from Chinese culture and events that have shaped them.
