Trade wars and a turn away from globalization may dominate the headlines, but for a German company like Siemens, there’s no step back from global markets – and especially China. Board member Cedric Neike speaks with DW about why China will continue to be the dominant market for manufacturing in the future and about the difficult outlook for business in Europe.

China is going to be the biggest market for manufacturing for the decades to come. And if you're not competitive in China, you're not competitive on a worldwide level. AI will change everything, and there's going to be winners and losers. If you embrace AI, you have a chance of perhaps becoming a winner. If you don't embrace this, you're definitely a loser.

Cedric Nika is a board member at Siemens. He's also CEO of digital industries for Siemens

Siemens had arguably a very good year last business year 23-24. However, it's also not immune from the general downturn in industry. You're planning to cut 5,600 positions in your division, uh, half of them in Germany.
